Basic Biochemistry - Learn the essentials of biochemistry from scratch

About BasicBiochemistry.com

This site was established in 2016 to help students new to biochemistry learn the basics of the field at their own pace.

Who is this site for?

If you’re new to the study of biochemistry, this site is for you. It is aimed at learners who have a basic grasp of chemistry and biology (if you’ve taken high school science courses, you’re in good shape), but who haven’t taken any upper-level courses in advanced chemistry, biochemistry, or organic chemistry.

The site was created to help aspiring premed students without training in biochemistry grasp to essentials in order to prepare for the MCAT. Therefore, many of the examples used in the learning modules will draw on the biochemical behaviour of the human body. However, this site may be a useful introductory resource for any student new to biochemistry, not just those interested in medicine.

Table of Contents (List of Learning Modules)

  1. What is biochemistry, and why does it matter?
  2. The building blocks of biochemistry: carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids, and proteins
